"Dance Your Ass Off" judge, Lisa Ann Walter sent us this update from the Los Angeles Auditions. Here's what she had to say:
Ok, I’m officially blown away by the sheer excitement, energy, talent, enthusiasm and downright OUTTA CONTROL outrageous FABULOUSNESS of the DYAO Season 2 auditioners!
My jaw dropped over splits, fan kicks, belly dancing, flamenco steps, Bustin’ Hip Hop, Krump, Old School Pop & Lock Moves….It was already such an incredible start to the contestant search that I know this season is going to flat out ROCK!
There were a lot of people already on line and waiting when I rolled up just before 9 a.m. Some had traveled quite a long way to get there – plane from Arizona, bus from San Francisco…Lots of people who came with friends, or sisters, co-workers who lent each other the resolve and courage it takes to just show up – much less take on putting themselves on the line to learn a fierce combination from STAR CHOREOGRAPHER KISHAYA! (Head Choreographer “Camp Rock”, 2005 VMA Award Winner for Gwen Stefani’s “Holla Back Girl”, Michael Jackson’s Leading Lady in “Rock My World”). She and the handsome, delicious KENIS broke down some killer hip hop and sexy, hot moves that really showcased the best in our hopefuls – plus everyone got a solo piece to feature what they do best! It was like a freak-fest, dance party all day long!
I’m not lying, we were all exhausted by the end of the day, but this is simply the most important and gratifying experience of my career. To see all of you beautiful, sassy, sensational people who were inspired by this show to overcome anything that’s been holding you back….To just come out, show America what you’ve got and take on the challenge to BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOU….It’s purely a joy.
Many people had stories of overcoming challenges and adversity – Addiction, Abuse, Beating Cancer, there was a sweet girl who was deaf and banged out the combination the best of her group! It made us root for them on so many levels: The only hard thing about it is when someone doesn’t make it through to the next round. But you know what? Most people were so motivated by the decision to come and try out – they were already planning on just going to dance class cause they remembered how much fun it was and they missed it – or even planning on coming back for next season if they didn’t make it this time!
The best thing about the event was – in true DYAO style - the level of support among the competitors. From the time I spent on the line outside – with auditioners, their families, kids, friends, husbands, girlfriends, etc. – they were all there for each other. Dancing all day (I had to tell them to save some energy!) Singing, throwing down old school rap, we did an improvised music video – people were stepping out of line to show off their salsa and breaking…it was AWESOME! And Season One Finalist, Shayla Hudson surprised us with a visit to lend some moral support and advice to the line before rushing off to make her matinee performance of “Grease” where she’s starring as Rizzo…already in hair and make-up so she wouldn’t miss her curtain call! She looked stunning (as usual!) and was such an inspiration to all of us with her hotness and delightful, bubbly personality. Can’t wait to see what happens on our next stop: Dallas!
