The Glee Project Episode 8 Recap

This week’s theme was “Believability”, and the contenders were totally down to keep it real! Being believable is super important on a show like GLEE, so they all had to really step it up this week and prove that they have what it takes to bring a true character to life. To help the contenders with this formidable task, the judges invited in Jenna Ushkowitz (GLEE’s Tina Chang), and the contenders could not have been more excited. In her honor, the homework assignment was one of her favorite songs – the classic “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper.

Jenna was impressed by all of the contenders’ performances. But when she had to single one out, Jenna picked Hannah as the homework winner. Hannah really touched her with both her acting and her vocals, so she got to have a one-on-one session with the GLEE star!  Lucky, right??

This week’s music video – “Only Exception” by Paramore – was different from the music videos in previous weeks.  There was absolutely no choreography this time.  The contenders’ performance depended one-hundred percent on their acting abilities.  They say that sometimes less is more, and it’s definitely true in this case.  The video was so intimate, personal, and moving – the judges could not be prouder. All the contenders truly gave a wonderful performance, but it was time to name the bottom three.

After much deliberation, the judges decided to place Lindsay, Hannah, and Samuel in the bottom three.  Even though Hannah won the homework assignment, the judges felt that her performance in the music video fell short. It was hard going from top to bottom, but Hannah totally rose to the challenge and performed a gorgeous rendition of “Back to December” by Taylor Swift for Ryan.  Lindsay stunned the judges with her crystal-clear vocals belting out “Maybe This Time” from the musical Cabaret, and Samuel rocked the house with Neon Tree’s “Animal”.

The judges didn’t know what to do.  Ryan loved Hannah, thought that Lindsay had a fantastic voice, and even though he at first felt that Samuel was the least relatable, he changed his mind after hearing what Sam had to say.  What to do, what to do?  It only gets harder every week.

Eventually, even though he loved her, Ryan decided to send Hannah home.  He thought she was delightful, full of joy, and truly embodied what the show was about, but in this competition it’s about finding the right person to write for, so he had to make his decision based on that.  Everyone was so sad to see Hannah go, but none more than us!  We’ll miss you MC Hannah!

Next week’s theme is “Generosity” and the contenders sing the classic “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers, and meet the cutest mentors yet!  For reals though – they are so adorable!  This is the last episode before the finals, so everyone is working their hardest.  The contenders are faced with new challenges, are evaluated on new parameters, and tested to the limit.  The tables are turned, the rules are changed, and the final is looming. Who will make it?? You won’t want to miss the next episode of The Glee Project, which airs next Sunday, August 14 at 9/8c, only on Oxygen!
